One of the important stops on the ATP Challenger Tour, the Bengaluru Open, which has been upgraded to ATP 125 from previous edition’s ATP 100, will be held from February 24 to March 2 at the KSLTA Tennis Stadium here.
The eighth edition of KSLTA’s flagship event has grown with each passing year, and it will be no different this year too. The Bengaluru Open, which has been played in four categories since the inaugural edition in 2017, has an increased prize money of $ 200,000.
The Bengaluru Open 2025 would be a great fillip to Indian tennis and provide an unmatched opportunity to the players. The upgrade will benefit the players both in terms of prize money boost and points. The winner stands to earn 125 ATP ranking points and $28,400 prize money.
In the past, the Indians have capitalised on the chances they were given. Sumit Nagal won the singles crown in 2017 and Prajnesh Gunneswaran emerged triumphant the following year. Ramkumar Ramanathan annexed the doubles crown three times, twice with fellow Indian Saketh Myneni and once with Puraj Raja. Divij Sharan won the inaugural edition doubles title with partner Mikhail Elgin.
“I’m really happy that the ATP Challenger in Bengaluru is back again this year in an even bigger way from 100k to 125k,” said Ramkumar Ramanathan, a three-time winner of the Bengaluru Open doubles title. “I’ve always enjoyed playing in the Garden City, the organization is always top-notch and the event is run with amazing enthusiasm and passion. Thanks to KSLTA for always making this event a grand success and I’m sure this year would be no different. I’ll be back again this year,” he added the world no. 405.
“The Bengaluru Open has been a great platform for promising Indian players looking to graduate to the next level,” said Shri Priyank Kharge, Hon’ble Minister of IT & BT & RDPR, Govt. of Karnataka, who is also the Sr. Vice-President of the KSLTA. “We are constantly striving to promote the sport and provide aspiring players with the chance to parade their skills on the international stage. We hope the Indian players use this opportunity as a launchpad for a great career. The Government of Karnataka has been supporting sports and the intention is to make Bengaluru, a formidable destination for global sports in the world which would augur well with its existing brand as the IT Capital & Startup Capital, all leading to make it a powerful Global City. We are fortunate to have the continued support of the major corporates of Bengaluru who have been partnering this event till now and have been a reason for the growth of this event,” he added.
Tournament Director Sunil Yajaman was excited about the Bengaluru Open being upgraded to a 125 event. “It’s really exciting to host the ATP 125 at Bengaluru and with this edition’s upgrade, the Bengaluru Open is just below an ATP Tour event,” Yajaman said. “It would surely attract the best players and would go on to enhance its position as a formidable event on the ATP Challenger Tour. We thank the ATP for trusting Bengaluru Open and providing the support to make it bigger. We shall make the best organisation to ensure the players, officials and fans have a great time at the Bengaluru Open.”
